In Memory of Paula "Lindsay" Sale Tinney

Then and Now

Class of 1971
Lee-Davis High School

Dr. Lindsay Sale-Tinney, 55, wife of Stu Tinney and resident of Redbud Lane in Columbia died Wednesday, April, 8th, 2009. A memorial service for Dr. Sale-Tinney will be held on Sunday, May 17th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Southwinds Farms in Columbia. Final arrangements for Lindsay have been entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation Services (heritage-fhcs.com). The family is grateful for their kindness.

A native of Midlothian, Virginia, she was the daughter of Jack and Elizabeth Sale of Mechanicsville, Virginia. She attended East Carolina University graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She served an internship at Duke University for Speech and Hearing Pathology. Following her studies there she attended Vanderbilt University earning her Master of Science Degree. Furthering her education here culminating in a PHD at Vanderbilt University, Lindsay worked as a Chief Liaison for the Office of Child Development under Governor Ray Blanton. Her entrepreneurial spirit motivated her to join the business world.

She was involved in hydro-plane boat racing, outdoor writing and photography, editor of a national fishing magazine and four new business start ups. Lindsay was very active in community affairs being solely responsible for acquiring a home for Maury Magic Riders as well as a residence for the farm manager to reside in. She was the recipient of numerous awards, some include the Susan B. Anthony Award, Woman of the Year, and Outdoor Photographer of the Year. She served as Co-Chairman with Barbara McIntyre for the Maury County Benefit Ball. In addition, Mule Day celebrants were always gleeful when the beauty pageant limousine dropped her off on her favorite parade route corner.

Lindsay moved to Columbia with her husband Stu in 1988 and started Atlantic Pools. They built their dream home and horse farm known as Southwind Farms. Lindsay’s greatest loves were her family, showing horses, world travel, enjoying the outdoors and entertaining friends.

From the moment Lindsay joined this world, her life was a celebration. Her adventurous spirit touched lives not only here but in her travels abroad. In her passing we ask all to remember her by celebrating her life at the memorial service.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her sisters, Karla (Dan) Ogden of Midlothian, Virginia and Shannon (Rick) Ryan of Mechanicsville, Virginia; her stepchildren, Susan Tinney of Nashville and Mitch (Denise) Tinney of Smyrna; several nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Memorials may be made to the Hope House, Maury County Animal Shelter, Maury Magic Riders, or the Maury County Boys and Girls Club.

Condolences may be sent to the family at stu.tinney@charter.net

I am so proud to have had you as my friend and fellow cheer teammate. May you be resting in peace, friend. I love you.

You were always so full of spunk from the days of Mrs. Chappelle's nursery school through LD years. It's hard to believe you're no longer with us.

I hope you knew how much I loved you and admired you. I will never forget you. Forgive me for not making the trip to East Carolina or to Tennessee. Thank you for being my friend, for coming to my wedding, for surprising me at my Christmas open house. I believe that we will be together again one day. Until then, whenever I see a young girl riding a horse, playing basketball, or cheering I will think of you. This world lost a very special person when we lost you, dear Lindsay. My heart is broken.
