Our most-traveled? One of us has visited 47 U.S. States or Territories, and another has visited 35 foreign countries.

1 of us has a birthday this month, and 8 of us have birthdays in June.

Currently, 25 of us are retired.

In Memory of Zula Slusser

SLUSSER, Zula Miller, 89, of Mechanicsville, Va., was born at Turtle Creek, Boone County, W.Va., on December 26, 1926 and passed away on October 12, 2016.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James H. Slusser Sr.; sister, Beulah Miller Dewees Boucher; two brothers, Oner Clarion Miller Jr. and Virgil Clair Miller; and parents, Oner and Hazel Ball Miller. She is survived by daughter, Mary Catherine Slusser of Richmond, Va.; and a son and his wife, James H. and Evelyn Dunham Slusser of Chesapeake, Va.
She is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Claudia Mae Miller Mabe and Kenneth Mabe of Orange Park, Fla. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law, Erma Rowley Miller and Alice Cabell Miller of Jacksonville, Fla.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Slusser was a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., and did graduate studies at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. She taught at Scott High School in Madison, W.Va., from 1947 to 1948. Mrs. Slusser and her family moved to Lexington, Va., in 1950. She later taught for seven years at Lexington High School before moving to Mechanicsville, Va., in 1967. In Mechanicsville, Mrs. Slusser taught mathematics for two years at Lee-Davis High School and 19 years at Stonewall Jackson Junior High, now Stonewall Jackson Middle School. She retired from teaching in 1988. She was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church.
Her family will receive friends at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 16, and where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, October 17. Interment at 2 p.m. Monday, in Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at Cool Spring Baptist Church, 9283 Atlee Station Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116. |
